Maintining Maxillary Expansion with Multisegment LeFort 1 Osteotomy: a Study of Technique
by Gunson Michael
Multisegment Le Fort 1 osteotomies are complicated and, at times, difficult to stabilize. The literature shows instability in 3 dimensions with the transverse dimension being the most problematic. There are surgical and pre and post operative techniques that can improve the stability of maxillary expansion. Our study revealed that osseous expansion can be extremely stable with statistically insignificant relapse of the maxillary segments when following a specific protocol. The techniques and data will be presented.
After this lecture, you will be able to understand the anatomic factors that need to be addressed to increase transverse stability
After this lecture, you will be able to understand the intraoperative techniques that improve maxillary transverse stability
After this lecture, you will be able to understand the pre and post operative actions that help to improve and maintain maxillary expansion
