Abstract

Maintining Maxillary Expansion with Multisegment LeFort 1 Osteotomy: a Study of Technique

by Gunson Michael

Multisegment Le Fort 1 osteotomies are complicated and, at times, difficult to stabilize. The literature shows instability in 3 dimensions with the transverse dimension being the most problematic. There are surgical and pre and post operative techniques that can improve the stability of maxillary expansion. Our study revealed that osseous expansion can be extremely stable with statistically insignificant relapse of the maxillary segments when following a specific protocol. The techniques and data will be presented.
